When you get a high radon test result, you need to find a qualified contractor fast. This page explains how we find contractors, how we check their credentials, and how we decide who shows up first in our directory.
Most homeowners who visit FindRadonPros are dealing with a stressful situation. Maybe you just got a test result back, or you are in the middle of buying a home. Either way, you need real options you can trust, not a list of random businesses. Here is how we make that happen.
Where Our Data Comes From
We build each contractor profile by checking multiple sources. We start with national certification registries (NRPP and NRSB) to find professionals who are actually credentialed for radon work. Then we cross-check business details like name, address, and phone number against public records. We also pull in Google reviews so you can see what past customers have to say.
No single source tells the whole story. A certification registry might confirm someone is qualified but not list their phone number. A Google listing might have great reviews but no proof of credentials. By combining sources, we give you the most complete picture we can.
How We Verify Contractors
We do not just take a contractor's word for it. We check whether their details show up consistently across multiple records. If something does not match up, like a business name that appears differently across sources or a phone number that does not check out, we flag that listing for review rather than showing unconfirmed information.
This matters because radon is a health issue. You need to know that the business you are calling is real, active, and actually set up to do this kind of work. Our process is not perfect, but we would rather show you less information than wrong information.
How Rankings Work
We put certified contractors first. That is the single biggest factor in where someone appears in our directory. If a contractor holds an active NRPP or NRSB certification that we can verify, they rank higher than someone without one.
After certifications, we look at Google reviews and how complete a contractor's profile is. Good reviews matter, but they do not outweigh whether someone is actually certified. A contractor with great reviews but no verifiable credentials will not outrank a certified professional with a complete profile.
In short: certifications first, then reviews, then how much information we have about them. Nobody can pay to rank higher in our organic results.
What "Certified Professional" Means
When you see the "Certified Professional" label on our site, it means we found that person or company in a national certification registry (NRPP or NRSB) and confirmed their credentials. It is not a paid badge. You cannot buy it.
That said, the label does not mean we guarantee the quality of their work. It means their credentials checked out as of our most recent update. You should still ask questions, get written estimates, and make sure they are a good fit for your specific home.
How Often We Update
We refresh our data regularly, checking for new contractors, updated phone numbers, changed business details, and new reviews. Some sources update faster than others, so not every listing is refreshed at exactly the same time.
We also fix things when people tell us about them. If you or a contractor reports incorrect information, we review it and make corrections as fast as we can.
How to Report an Error
If something looks wrong on a listing, let us know. The most helpful reports include the page URL, what is wrong, and any proof you have. We review every report.
Report issues through our Contact page. If you are a contractor, you can also claim your listing to update your own profile directly.
Paid vs. Organic Listings
Rankings in our directory are based on certifications and reviews, not who pays us. No contractor can buy the top organic spot.
We do offer sponsored placements in some markets. These always appear in a separate "Featured" section and are clearly labeled as sponsored. Paying for a featured spot never changes a contractor's organic ranking or their trust badges.
What We Cannot Promise
No directory catches every contractor or every change in real time. New businesses open, phone numbers change, and public records can lag behind. We do our best with regular updates, but there will be occasional gaps.
Think of our directory as a strong starting point. Use it to find qualified contractors, then confirm the details directly before you hire. Your own questions plus our research is the best combination.
Listing Categories
Each contractor on FindRadonPros falls into one of three categories based on what we can confirm about them:
Certified Pro
This contractor holds an active NRPP or NRSB certification that we verified against the official registry. These listings rank highest because certification is the strongest proof of qualification.
Google Confirmed
This business has a verified Google Business profile with reviews and consistent contact information. We could not find or confirm certification records, but the business appears to be active and legitimate.
Listed
This contractor appeared in one or more records but we could not confirm much beyond that. These listings are clearly labeled so you know we have less information about them.
What We Check
Every time we update our data, we look at the following for each contractor:
- Phone number – Does it match across sources? Is it a working number?
- Website – Is the contractor's website still live?
- Certifications – Do they hold current NRPP or NRSB credentials?
- Services – What radon services do they actually offer (testing, mitigation, repairs)?
- Google reviews – How many reviews do they have, and what is the average rating?
- Service area – Where do they actually work?
- Business activity – Is there evidence the business is still operating, like recent reviews or an active website?

Contractors can claim their listing at any time to update their profile. Claimed profiles are updated right away.
